It’s not often that Chelsea receive compliments from Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, but they certainly got some after defeat to Liverpool yesterday evening.
The Blues lost out narrowly in a 2-1 defeat at Anfield, but they certainly made a good account of themselves and on another day, could have at least got a point from this game. Chelsea also had a pretty clear penalty shout not even looked at by VAR and ignored by the Ref. So there was moments for Chelsea for sure and they actually bossed the possession (58%) in the game too.

Liverpool were professional and organised though and in the end, they did enough to take all three points at home.
Neville believes Chelsea are coming though, and they can soon challenge the likes of Liverpool for the Premier League title, even if it wont be this season. But to do that, Neville says Chelsea need to sign in one position.
Chelsea need a world class striker
This is something I have personally been saying for years now, and I know many other Chelsea fans have also been saying the same thing. For me, despite the form and much better performances of Nicolas Jackson, this is clear still.
Every top club needs top competition, and other than Christopher Nkunku, who for me is a number 10 rather than a number 9, Jackson does not have any top competition for the 9 role.
Neville, speaking on the Sky Sports Podcast after the Liverpool game in words cited by Blue Footy on X, said:
“I think we know their deficiencies. I don’t want to call out Nicolas Jackson, because I think he can be part of a very successful squad that can do well for Chelsea. I just think if he had a world-class striker in front of him – and he was the second striker – that would probably be more aligned with a team who can go on and potentially win a title in a few years time and catch Liverpool up.”
He’s right too, in my opinion.
They need quality center back and a proper defensive midfielder too and a goalkeeper . They should bring back petrovic and use Jorgensen instead of Sanchez . Maresca should stop relying on Palmer . Mostly games they played his been man mark . He should twix his tactics because opposition read his game plan . He should play NKunKu/ Felix regularly not only in Europa conference league . This lost cost the team a chance for UCL . Felix been brought in and not been playing in EPL . He should start alongside NKunKu/ Jackson . Then rotate his wingers not same players all the time . Maresca wasting the quality of the team of playing same players all the time . Palmer won’t get a easy game from now on his been man mark . Use different method or system to counter the opponent game plan .
