“The only weakness you can say” – Hasselbaink details the one area Cole Palmer needs to improve in

Former Chelsea star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been speaking about Cole Palmer and believes the England international only really has one weakness.

Palmer has been nothing sort of a revelation since joining Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer of 2023 and he’s gone on to establish himself as one of the best players in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old was named Premier League Young Player of the Year last season after scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assists, and he will be looking to better those number this campaign.

Palmer’s start to the campaign has shown there’s every chance he could improve on last season and he’s scored six goals and provided five assists in eight league games this season.

Teams have started to man mark Palmer and double up on him in order to minimise his impact and Enzo Maresca recently explained how he can still be a threat despite the increased attention on him.

Palmer’s rise to the top of the game has been rapid considering he hadn’t even scored a Premier League goal before the start of last season.

At £42.5m Chelsea have got themselves an absolute bargain, with sporting director Paul Winstanley believing Palmer is a future Ballon d’Or winner.

Palmer appears to have everything in his game and is an absolute joy to watch, but former Blue Hasselbaink has highlighted one weakness he believes the Englishman has.

“The only weakness you can say he has is heading the ball, but he can pass, score, assist and take free-kicks. He is exceptional, he told BoyleSports as cited on X.com.

It’s a fair assessment, although Palmer has shown he can head the ball and scored a brilliant headed goal in last season’s 2-1 victory away at Brighton.

Palmer should be well rested after not featuring against Panathinaikos on Thursday and he will be looking to get back amongst the goals against Newcastle after a quiet game last time out against Liverpool.
