“That’s an area of concern” – Jason Cundy names player Chelsea can upgrade on

Chelsea players in a group huddle.

Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy feels the Blues can’t win a major trophy with Robert Sanchez in goal and feels the Spaniard will be replaced at some stage.

Sanchez has started the season well but was at fault for both goals Chelsea conceded against Brighton as he made two poor errors, and no matter how well he’s doing he appears to always have those moments in his game.

The Blues signed Filip Jorgensen this summer, but so far he’s been limited to the cup competitions and Sanchez has very much been Enzo Maresca’s first choice.

Cundy shares thoughts on Sanchez

Sanchez arrived at Chelsea last summer from Brighton in a deal worth up to £25m and became the club’s number one after Kepa Arrizabalaga joined Real Madrid on loan.

The Spaniard endured a difficult first season and lost his place to Djordje Petrovic when he got injured last December and didn’t win it back.

Chelsea fans would liked to have seen Sanchez leave this summer but there was seemingly no market for him, and the general consensus amongst supports seems to be that he’s not good enough to be a number one keeper for the club.

Whilst the errors against Brighton ultimately didn’t cost the Blues any points there will come a point where his errors will prove costly and Chelsea need a reliable pair of hands if they are to compete for the major trophies in the future.

Former Blue Cundy has shared this thoughts on the matter and believes that whilst Sanchez is a good shot stopper, Chelsea can’t win a major trophy with him in goal.

“I think Robert Sanchez probably will be replaced at some stage,” he told talkSPORT as cited on X.com.

“He’s a good shot stopper and there are times when he pulls off brilliant saves, but overall I don’t think Chelsea can win a major trophy with him in goal. That’s an area of concern.”

What Chelsea do with the goalkeeping position in the future remains to be seen and the club have spent a lot of money on keepers in the past few windows, but you can’t help but feel if they are to really challenge then a world class goalkeeper is really important.
