Noni Madueke has been discussing Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana’s defensive partnership and revealed why he feels the pair are so good together.

The trio have all played an important role in Chelsea’s good start to the season under Enzo Maresca, with the Blues currently sitting fourth on 14 points from a possible 21.

Madueke has been one of Chelsea’s most dangerous players and has four goals in seven Premier League games, whilst Fofana and Colwill have established themselves as Chelsea’s first choice defensive pairing.

Having played a lot at left back last season under Mauricio Pochettino, Colwill has found himself back in his preferred centre back role and has made an impressive start to the season.

Fofana made his long awaited return to action after missing the entire of last season with an ACL injury and is improving in every game.

It’s been reported that Maresca has agreed to play the France international once a week until the start of 2025 to ensure he doesn’t suffer any injury setbacks.

There’s early signs that Colwill and Fofana could go on to form a formidable partnership at the back and Madueke has revealed why he believes the duo work so well together.

“They really do complement each other. They are polar opposites and I think, yeah, you guys are polar opposites, Wes carries the ball, Levi passes it,” he said in an interview on Chelsea’s YouTube channel.

“Wes is front foot, Levi is like a sweeper, even though you can be front foot, you can do the front foot as well, if there are games where we all need to go, you can do that, but it’s probably more your style to be the sweeper.

“Like I said, you are the control and Wes is like the aggressor, so I think it is perfect. It’s a great balance.”

The partnership will be broken up for the first time in the league for Sunday’s game against Liverpool with Fofana suspended and summer signing Tosin Adarabioyo is expected to slot in alongside Colwill, with first choice left back Marc Cucurella also suspended.
