“It means a lot for me” – Chelsea ace opens up on special moment this season

Moises Caicedo has opened up on what it means to him to have captained Chelsea on two separate occasions this season.

After initially struggling following his British record transfer from Brighton last summer, Caicedo looks a player reborn under Enzo Maresca.

Despite the attacking players taking a lot of the plaudits for the club’s good start to the season, Caicedo has been one of Chelsea’s best performers.

Having missed the majority of pre-season due to his exploits with Ecuador at the Copa America, Caicedo has really hit the ground running.

The 22-year-old appears to be getting back to the form he showed at Brighton and arguably had his best performance in a Chelsea shirt in last month’s win against West Ham.

Caicedo has been at his combative best in the middle of the park, making plenty of tackles and interceptions and has dominated the midfield on a number occasions this season.

The Ecuadorian may only be at the start of his second season with the Blues but he’s already been entrusted with the captaincy by Enzo Maresca against Servette and Bournemouth.

In a recent interview Caicedo opened up on what that meant to him and how it was a dream come true as he grew up supporting Chelsea.

“It means a lot for me,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“I’m so proud of myself. It’s a dream to be a captain of one of the best teams in the world. I am so grateful to him for that because without him that wouldn’t have been impossible.

“It’s a dream come true because I grew up supporting Chelsea. To be a player for Chelsea and for some games to be the captain is so good for me.”

Having had the night off against Gent on Thursday, Caicedo will likely return to the starting line-up for Sunday’s game against Nottingham Forest as Chelsea look to make it six wins in a row in all competitions.
