New contract unlikely to end Chelsea interest in player and you can bet there’s a clause

Chelsea's logo on material.

Just because a player signs a new contract extension at their club, in this day and age it means very little other than the club who owns said player having much more power in negotiations should they sell.

We have seen various examples of this in recent times where a player agrees to a contract extension with their club after being linked with moves away for months and even getting as far as being in talks with other clubs. Said player then ends up being sold not too long after the new contract was agreed.

I am not saying this will happen with case in subject Jhon Duran by the way, but I’d not be at all surprised if the new contract he has just agreed with Aston Villa contains some kind of break or release clause in it. Or at least some kind of agreement to let him leave the club down the line.

As we know, Chelsea have had very public interest in Duran recently, and I wont expect a new contract would put them off if they still wanted to try and sign him in the near future.

Duran scoring for fun

The Villa striker has been scoring for fun so far this season but he is still only largely being used off the bench as a sub.

His goal-scoring has seen him get rewarded with a new contract, as officially unveiled by Villa earlier today.

But yes, I’d be shocked if it doesn’t contain a release clause, and I am sure that Chelsea will absolutely still hold an interest in the striker.
