Pat Nevin explains whether he thinks Chelsea can now win the league this season

Pat Nevin speaks on Chelsea

Former Chelsea player turned pundit Pat Nevin has been explaining whether he believes Chelsea are now title contenders this season or not.

Many pundits and fans alike are changing their opinions on Chelsea after six games in. Most had Chelsea down as top 6 at best, perhaps some had them as top 4 finish but not many. Most people believed Chelsea would be lucky to even finish in the top 6 at the start of this season. Now they are changing their opinions already and some are believing Chelsea can now finish in the top 4 this season.

Nevin has been critical of the new owners and the way the squad build has been done, but he’s also been largely pretty balanced and fair with his views.

Nevin believes it’s too early to be talking about Chelsea as title contenders

Chelsea have started very well

In his latest column for The BBC, Nevin wrote:

“There were six goals in the first half at Stamford Bridge, while Chelsea have already had an eight-goal bizarre-a-thon against Wolves this season.

‌”There is an argument that winning the league is still beyond them, but as pure box office, they are once again becoming unmissable.”

Personally, I have always said that I wanted to see after 10 games of Enzo Maresca before I can really start to form a judgement of where Chelsea will be come the end of the season, and I maintain that right. It’s hard to know if the players will continue to stay consistent and whether they have fully picked up Maresca’s style of play yet. I’m staying patient and just watching on for now!
