“I was just left wanting more from him” – Cascarino underwhelmed by one Chelsea star against Forest

Former Chelsea player Tony Cascarino believes Jadon Sancho’s performance against Nottingham Forest was disappointing and he wanted to see more from the winger.

Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by a stubborn Forest side as their five game winning streak in all competitions came to an end.

Chris Wood gave Forest the lead early in the second half before Noni Madueke equalised, with both teams having brilliant chances to win it late on, but both Robert Sanchez and Matz Sels made superb saves to keep the scores level.

A lot has been made of Chelsea’s attacking quality and their ability to score a lot of goals, but against Forest they found it tough.

The Blues started with the same team that beat Brighton, which meant a third Premier League start in a row for Sancho, as he looked for his fourth assist in four games.

Forest defended well and it made it difficult for Chelsea’s attack, although the Blues were still able to create more than enough chances to win the game.

Madueke was a threat down the right wing, but Sancho had a more difficult afternoon on the left and former Blue Cascarino felt his performance was underwhelming.

“I was just left wanting more from him,” Cascarino told Times Sport as cited on X.com.

“Being ok, which is what he was, is a problem. The truth is that he made it easy for Nottingham Forest’s right back Ola Aina to play against him.

“Chelsea have loads of wingers who can stand wide and pass the ball inside. Sancho can’t afford to be mediocre.”

Whilst Sancho didn’t play badly by any stretch he certainly could have offered more against Forest and make it more difficult for Aina.

It’s been a good start to his Chelsea career for Sancho, but with the competition for places in the wide areas fierce, he can’t afford to many performances like the one against Forest otherwise he could find himself on the bench.
