“Topic for December” – Romano denies Chelsea already in talks over January move

Chelsea’s crazy summer finally concluded with a lot of the outcasts and “bomb squad” finding a transfer or a loan away at the last minute.

Not everyone made it though – despite some pretty unrealistic sounding late window moves to Turkey being suggested, Ben Chilwell didn’t leave and has been stuck in limbo waiting for January. He got a brief appearance in the Carabao Cup – but a couple more cameos like that seem to be all he can hope for before January.

That point he’ll be hoping to move – but according to Fabrizio Romano’s “Daily Briefing” for CaughtOffside, there’s still not that much interest.

“It’s too early to comment on where Ben Chilwell will end up next. This is gonna be a topic for December because now it’s still quiet,” the insider wrote.

That’s hardly comforting for Chilwell, who has missed so much of his career to injury and is now watching another season slip by without him being involved. He’ll be desperate for a January move if anyone of the right level comes along.

Waiting game is the only game Chilwell is guaranteed right now

It doesn’t seem like his status with Enzo Maresca is going to change either:

“It’s too early to comment on where Ben Chilwell will end up next. This is gonna be a topic for December because now it’s still quiet.”

Let’s hope that the sporting directors are focused on getting the full back out, as at the moment the situation is bad all round. They will be pushing for a permanent transfer, but a loan might end up being the best solution given the nightmare everyone’s stuck in now.

It’s October now – while we understand January is still some time away, given the difficulties finding a taker in the summer, we’d hope that things are in motion pretty soon so that Chilwell can move on January 1st and start the next chapter of his career.
