Wayne Bridge details what’s impressed him most about Enzo Maresca’s start at Chelsea

Wayne Bridge talks to the cameras.

Former Blue Wayne Bridge has been speaking about Enzo Maresca and admitted he was seriously impressed with the Italian’s start to life at Chelsea.

Maresca was appointed as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor in the summer after guiding Leicester to the Championship title last season and signed a five year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have certainly taken a gamble in appointing the 44-year-old, but he recently revealed he had no doubts over taking the job.

However, a lack of experience hasn’t appeared to be an issue and Maresca has overseen a good start to life in west London.

The Blues currently sit sixth in the league after falling to their second league defeat of the campaign against Liverpool at Anfield last Sunday.

Chelsea gave a good account of themselves and there were plenty of positives to take, but once again defensive errors proved very costly.

It might be early days but Maresca has already created a clear identity and you can see the style of play he’s trying to implement.

There’s still 30 games to go in the league and anything can happen, but former Chelsea star Bridge admitted he had been really impressed by Maresca, with David Seaman praising him for getting the best out of Nicolas Jackson.

“What he’s (Maresca) done coming in there, I think, is great,” he told David Seaman’s podcast.

“I just called it a shambles. The amount of players they’ve got, the length of contracts they’ve got. For a manager to actually accept that job, it doesn’t look pretty does it.

“He’s come in, and looking in, he’s got them playing how he wants them to play. Every player seems to know their job. He must have attention to detail in training. I think everyone knows their job, and they’re playing so much better. I think he’s done really well considering what he came into.”

Maresca has certainly taken people by surprise, but following defeat at Anfield the Blues have Newcastle, Manchester United and Arsenal as their next three Premier League games and need to get some points on the board.
