Nevin explains what Chelsea’s star player must do to avoid “ruin” of his career like Jack Grealish

Cole Palmer had a quiet game against Manchester United (apart from a few nice touches here and there), but on the whole his season has been spectacular, and Pat Nevin took another chance this Monday to praise the playmaker.

“You just have to be honest with people. I don’t see many better than him in the world,” Nevin said in quotes picked up exclusively by EPL Index.

“He is seeing things that others aren’t. He is capable of skills and vision that very few players can do.”

Former Chelsea winger Nevin also had a word of warning for the 22 year old, however:

“The world his oyster. If he can keep away from injury, keep that calm head on his shoulders and he must stay at a club where he is a core player. That can sometimes ruin a player, just look at Jack Grealish at Manchester City.”

Palmer is central to Chelsea’s plans, and we doubt he’s got any intentions of going anywhere soon. Grealish wanted to step up from Aston Villa, while Palmer is already at a team with Champions League winning aspirations.

Nevin claims Palmer hard done by Southgate and England

Nevin also had some interesting thoughts about Palmer’s summer, which saw him wait patiently for his chance with England at the Euros before working his way into the team and scoring in the final.

“I was thinking during the EURO’s, why are we playing Jude Bellingham ahead of Cole Palmer?”, Nevin queried.

Well, we know why – because Jude Bellingham is the biggest star in the squad, and had just come off a Champions League winning debut season with Real Madrid. He might not have been the right choice to play for England in that position, but Gareth Southgate was hardly in a position to leave him out.

Anyway, who’s “we”? Aren’t you Scottish, Pat?
