“I have no doubt about this” – Enzo Maresca makes big claim following Man United draw

Enzo Maresca has claimed there’s no doubt in his mind Chelsea have one of the best squads in the Premier League.

The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester United on Sunday, meaning they still haven’t won at Old Trafford since 2013.

The point moves Chelsea into the top four, but it will certainly feel like a missed opportunity as Maresca’s men could have gone third with a win.

Having made 11 changes against Newcastle last Wednesday as the Blues exited the Carabao Cup, Maresca reverted back to his strongest team.

The game was a drab affair, especially in the first half, although Chelsea went close with Noni Madueke’s header hitting the post.

There was a slight improvement in the second half, but the Blues went behind after Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot after Robert Sanchez fouled Rasmus Hojlund.

Moises Caicedo levelled the scores with a brilliant volley, and the Blues could have won it through substitute Enzo Fernandez, who missed a great chance late on.

A lot has been made of Chelsea’s squad, but Maresca left the likes of Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku on the bench, which may have surprised some people.

Speaking after the game the 44-year-old claimed he had no doubt that he has one of the best squads in the league at his disposal.

“I have one of the best squads in the Premier League, I have no doubt about this,” he told his post match press conference.

“Since I arrived, the first thing I said to the club is that I was in love with the squad and this squad is very good.

“We have one of the best squads in the Premier League. Talent is not enough. We need to be more things but we are in the right direction.”

Chelsea face another big week before the international break and Maresca is likely to make full use of his squad for the Conference League game against Noah on Thursday night, before a huge London derby against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
