Glenn Hoddle believes Cole Palmer can become a superstar but feels there is still one question mark surrounding the England international.
Palmer has taken the Premier League by storm following his £42.5m move from Manchester City in the summer of 2023.
The 22-year-old has established himself as arguably the best player in the Premier League and one of the best in the world at this moment in time.
Hoddle on the question mark surrounding Palmer
Palmer was named Premier League Young Player of the Year in his breakout season under Mauricio Pochettino, scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assists.
The attacker has picked up what feels like almost every individual award going, and Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has tipped him as a future Ballon d’Or winner.
Palmer has rightfully been receiving plaudits from far and wide and Hoddle believes he can become a superstar, but highlighted one question mark he feels surrounds the Englishman.
“For me, he’s like a player that plays in the playground,” he told The Overlap.
“Play in the playground, there’s no shape, give me the ball, and I’ll show you what I can do. He’s like that.
“If he doesn’t change, I think he could elevate himself to being a super superstar and go probably ahead of [Phil] Foden in many ways. The question mark is, can he do that over the next coming seasons?”
If the start of this season is anything to go by then you wouldn’t bet against it and Palmer already has seven goals and fives assists in the first nine games, but was surprisingly an unused substitute as Newcastle knocked Chelsea out of the Carabao Cup.
Given Palmer hadn’t scored a Premier League goal before the start of last season shows just how incredible his rise has been in such a short space of time and Chelsea will be hoping he can make an impact against Manchester United on Sunday as the Blues look for a first win at Old Trafford since 2013.
