Frank Lampard was Sky’s pundit for today’s Chelsea against Manchester United game, and the midfielder and former Blues coach gave some interesting thoughts on how he thought his old team would be feeling.
“Underwhelmed, slightly… I just think it was an opportunity. Manchester United are never “there for the taking” because Old Trafford and the players and quality they have they have can always affect the game, and they kind of did,” Lampard commented post game.
“But I think with how Chelsea have been playing, they’re quite confident in what they’re trying to do. They’ve got offensive players, players at the top of the pitch [who didn’t perform]. Cole Palmer wasn’t as effective as we’ve seen recently. Neto, Madueke, in the first half Jackson. You’re kind of looking at it, watching it, thinking… they’ve got a real opportunity here to go 1 vs. 1, or show some speed and find a pass… and they kept missing it, missing the final pass. So I think they’ll be disappointed.”

Chelsea squad heads in the right direction after recent struggles
Lampard was last at the club during the most chaotic period of recent history – with a boat load of players on the way out, but still in the dressing room. He will be envious of how much more streamlined the current group look – there may be a lot of them, but they all know their role and where they stand.
Of course, as he says, after the progress this season they will want more, but you can’t complain too much about a draw at Old Trafford. It does however continue a disappointing record under Enzo Maresca against the top teams, with Arsenal to come a week today.
