Chelsea’s team sheet today is a sight to behold.
The Blues have immense quality from front to back, and even the bench is full of great players. It’s a heartening sight after some difficult years. Ok, sure, it took the end of an injury crisis and £1.3bn spent to get there. But there’s no denying that that this team looks way stronger than most we’ve seen in recent years.
There is only one area that looks a step behind the others, and it seems the club are already doing their best to address it. Robert Sanchez continues to be a weak link, and despite the slew of young keepers bought in the last couple of years, it seems there’s still an appetite for more.
Chelsea chase final pieces of the puzzle to complete perfect team
CaughtOffside report that there remains serious interest in Enzo Maresca’s goalkeeper from last season, Mads Hermansen:
“Leicester have no plans to lose Mads Hermansen mid-season. It would likely take £35m+ to change that. The bigger fear is if Leicester go down, Hermansen would be very hard to keep,” their report reads.
“It was the same with James Maddison and Harvey Barnes. It’s true that Enzo Maresca really trusted and liked Hermansen when he was Leicester’s manager, but Chelsea are not urgently seeking another goalkeeper. There is still trust in Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen to compete for the number one spot.
“It’s also worth adding that along with Djordje Petrovic, who is on-loan at Strasbourg, Mike Penders will arrive in summer 2025. He is rated extremely highly. Chelsea believe the 19-year-old has enormous potential.”
So basically – we’ve got loads of goalkeepers, nobody is sure if any will be good enough, so maybe we should buy another one just to be sure…
