Chelsea are desperately hunting for a striker to help lift the load on Nicolas Jackson, who hasn’t scored in 7 Premier League games now.
While they’re linked to new faces like Evan Ferguson today, one has to wonder why the backup striker they went into the season with, Marc Guiu, isn’t getting more chances.
He really has to scrap around for minutes in the Premier League despite Jackson’s struggles. Manager Enzo Maresca was asked about this in his press conference today. Has Guiu shown what it takes to actually get a chance to contribute?
“Marc is improving a lot, to be honest. He is doing fantastic; day by day, he is getting more and more ready for that sort of game but sometimes the decision is because I see something and sometimes it is good, sometimes it is not. For sure, Marc, I think day after day, he is more ready,” Maresca said.
It’s all very positive, but also non-committal. He’s studiously avoiding promising anything too much, without being too critical. Let’s face it though, nobody is expecting Guiu to get more than a token few minutes when we play West Ham in our next game.
Maresca on “aggressive” West Ham and the threat they bring

Maresca also spoke more generally on what we can expect on Monday night from Graham Potter’s team:
“They are very aggressive. I watched the four or five games with Graham in charge. You can see they are trying to be very aggressive, even in the last game against Aston Villa. It will be a tough game, like always. In terms of tactical, we still have two days to prepare the game, so we are going to see.”
Let’s hope he gives young Marc a chance to go and attack this “aggressive” Hammers side.
This manager talk about Chelsea players but never play them . Makes your tactics works . You need to adjust tactically every games . You watched the game but you don’t even adjust to counter your opponent tactics . Utilise your player’s well . You have given loads of players but you don’t even play them regularly with trust and confidence . I hope you play Santos next season regularly and why not play Washington as a striker . He has potential all he needs is to play and given chance . Guiu development isn’t good because you don’t play him in the big match .
Yes u are right.maresca is stubborn and stupid ameture coach only
We are tired of promises
YES GIVE HIM CHANCE
Madueke plays secondary school football, yet he’s a regular starter.
jackson needs to be dropped, maresca needs to work out to beat a low block, and WE NEED A STRIKER!!!!!
