The start of 2025 was bound to be a crazy time for Chelsea and their fans given the number of games – and that was even before the news arriving on January 1st that the Blues had parted ways with Enzo Maresca.
At that moment, things could have gone very dark. The mood was bleak in the fanbase, with the ownership getting a pasting from away fans at every match. But instead, new manager Liam Rosenior has brought a wave of positivity both in terms of results and attitude.
In fact, while an online casino is an easy way to make some quick money on your phone – but betting on Chelsea recently has been just as good. Defying some expectations, and overcoming some dodgy performances along the way, the Blues have been absolutely flying under Rosenior.
He came in with the perfect start – an FA Cup game against League One Charlton. Winning that comfortably, and racking up 5 goals in the process, got us off on the right foot and eased tensions immediately.
While that was followed by an EFL Cup semi final first leg defeat to Arsenal, the team were able to shake off any disappointment with consecutive wins over Brentford, Pafos and Crystal Palace. They got a slice of fortune in each of them, but still got the job done at both ends of the pitch. Things already felt more relaxed.
That cushion of confidence then set them up for their “comeback week” rather nicely. Games against Napoli and West Ham both had the Blues roaring back from behind to win, overcoming bad patches to earn vital points. They were then beaten again by Arsenal in the second leg of their cup game, but that didn’t knock their confidence.
They just went out and blasted Wolves 3-0 on Saturday, to make it 7 wins and 2 defeats in 9 games for Rosenior in his whirlwind month since taking over. If you’d been backing the Blues in each game, you’d be sitting pretty right now.
It’s put them into the Champions League last 16, dodging the two legged playoff, and has them up to 5th in the league, a solid 4 points ahead of 6th and just one point off an equally resurgent Man U in 4th.
We can’t get ahead of ourselves – the results have so far been better than the performances. But it’s better to have one than neither, and there are already signs of tangible improvement.
Just imagine what Rosenior will be able to do when he gets his first free midweek!
