Chelsea owner Todd Boehly wants this rule changed

Chelsea’s ownership group which is headed up by Todd Boehly would support the move to remove the 3pm blackout, according to sources contacted by The Daily Mail.

Some may be asking, what is the 3pm blackout? essentially, for several years, there has been a rule that means that no games that kick off at 3pm in the Premier League are allowed to be televised, in the hope that football fans will look toward watching the lower league matches that are televised instead, and bring them increased revenue.

If you did research online, it wouldn’t take you long to find Premier League fans that despise this rule, after all, it means that illegal and pirated streams are much more common as that is the only way to watch your team at 3pm if you do not have the privilege to attend the match in person.

In the case of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, the story suggests that they see increased revenue opportunities that would come with the removal of the 3pm blackout.
