According to some reports, the Brazilian defender could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer, with Barcelona renewing a strong interest in signing the 6 feet 2 defender for next season.
Carlos Puyol announced yesterday at a press conference in Madrid ahead of their friendly with Italy, that he would quit the Nou Camp in the summer, which in return raised the possibility of potential move for David Luiz.
Barcelona had a bid for Luiz rejected last summer, with Jose Mourinho insisting that the Brazilian was not for sale.
Barcelona may have to offer more than they are planning to offer for the central defender who joined the Blues in 2011 from Benfica. Chelsea had rejected advances from the Catalonian club in 2013 insisting they wanted much more than £50M.
Carlos Puyol who made spent his whole career at Barcelona, made his first start in 1999. Puyol came through Barca’s youth ranks, has made 593 appearances for the Catalan giants, and is the second-most capped player in the club’s history behind Xavi.
Yesterday in Madrid, he said:
“I want to announce that at the end of the season I will no longer be a Barcelona player. There are three months of the season left and I will not give up. I will help the team”.
He then went on saying he’s had two recent surgeries and he was finding it hard to recover the level the club want from him. He will commit himself to the club until the World Cup kicks off in Brazil.
Ivanovic happiest at Chelsea FC
One of the other Chelsea’s defender facing rumours on move from Stamford Bridge is the Serbian International Branislav Ivanovic.
He joined the Blues in 2008 from Lokomotiv Moscow and he’s made 250 appearances for the club so far. He’s been recently linked with the French Champions Paris St Germain but the Serbian who turned 30 last month says he’s the happiest at Chelsea Football Club.
“I can say this is the happiest I have been at Chelsea because, at the moment, the team is doing well and things are going right for us.”
Chelsea currently sit 4 points clear of second place Arsenal who have tough fixture in the coming weeks but Ivanovic insist he’s enjoying the best time of his career with the Blues.
