Thiago Silva decision date is set – and Chelsea must already know the answer

It’s one of the big debates tearing Chelsea fans apart this season – what to do with Thiago Silva?

On the one hand, his performances are quite clearly down a level from where they were a couple of years ago, and on Saturday we saw another mental error from the defender cost us dearly.

On the other hand, he’s still great on his day, and brings some much needed experience and calm to a callow team.

The plan has clearly been to keep him around while so many new players bed in around him, but he’s running out of road very fast.

Nizaar Kinsella’s piece in the Evening Standard today claims that the Brazilian – who is now our oldest ever player – will see his future decided at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Until quite recently we could imagine him being given one more year, but now there’s no question this will be his last, and new options are no doubt being explored as replacements.
