Alfie Gilchrist has had a couple of cameos off the bench for Chelsea in recent weeks, and last night stepped up to make his full debut, playing out of position as a right back.
Joking with Chelsea TV after the game, he confessed that he had struggled in a more active role than his usual central defensive position – “it showed when I got cramp” he laughed.
He’s been training with the first team so much that he’s not actually played much with the development squad, and that made things even more difficult. But he played a great game while he was on the field, and we will certainly see him again before the end of the season.
