£30m deal for Chelsea man on “pause” as buyers fear breaking spending rules

An interesting update from the Daily Mail’s Tom Collomosse last night added further texture to the links between Chelsea and Armando Broja.

The striker is being strongly linked with a January departure from the club, despite being our only true number 09 available at the moment. The club’s desire to balance the books by selling off home grown talent is making a sale to another Premier League team this month look more than possible.

Wolves have been heavily linked, but Collomosse indicated that this is now looking less likely. They have apparently “pressed pause” on negotiations because of fears of breaking the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Chelsea have apparently been pushing for a loan with a summer obligation to buy of £30m. Wolves have been very careful to stay within spending limits, and will have to do the maths to see if this works.

There are other options out there – Fulham and West Ham have both been linked. But nothing seems imminent, and for now it looks like we will have to look elsewhere to raise funds.
