Why Chelsea’s team tonight is impossible to predict

Mauricio Pochettino named an unchanged team for the game against Liverpool on the Sunday, and the match ended up going to extra time.

That means there are some players who have done close to 90 minutes against Man City and two hours against Liverpool in the last 10 days. Like it or not, the coach has to make major changes for tonight’s game.

We expect Djordje Petrovic to continue in goal – although this would be a chance to give the returning Robert Sanchez some minutes.

In defence, Trevoh Chalobah has to come in, and we’re sure either Malo Gusto or Ben Chilwell (and very possibly both) will be rested. Who plays at left back is a big question mark, as Marc Cucurella is still recovering.

In midfield, you would think that Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher are all in line for a break, but there’s just not the depth to allow that.

Up front, Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer will drop out, with Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke their likely replacements. Deivid Washington is also an option.

There are far more players that need a rest than players ready to replace them.
