Alberto Moreno, the star left-back, has been on the radar of several English clubs, including that of Chelsea’s.
The 21-year-old player quickly grew in the ranks of his home team Sevilla FC’s reserves, and was given an opportunity to play in the first team on April 8, 2012 against Athletico Bilbao in the last few moments of the match. Since then he has proven his prowess in the game, and has already shown much versatility in his style of play, having played attacking as well as defending football for his club.
After his definite promotion to the first team in early 2013, his progression and improvement have been rapid, and he has shown that he has the ability to adapt and learn. This was proven by his much appraised defending against a Gareth Bale in top form, in their recent match against Real Madrid.
With this rapid improvement, there is a good likelihood that we may witness him in Brazil, in the Spain squad as an alternative to Jordi Alba.
The left footed fullback often gives the impression of mimicking the wingers of old, with well placed crosses and attacks that almost always have some potential. With a goal tally of three currently, we should see many more once he matures further.
While a brilliant player, his 5’7” frame is not very comparable to many strikers and wingers, and what he makes up for in positioning and attacking, he lacks in aerial play. Also, his tackling abilities could do with some more work (he prefers to make it difficult for players to find space, rather than make tackles).
With an average pass success rate of 78.7%, and a very physical presence in almost every match, it is no wonder that Moreno is being targeted by some very big clubs.
