Chelsea are in talks with French giants PSG over the reported £50 million transfer of defender David Luiz.
Chelsea have received and are seriously considering a £50 million bid for much-loved defender David Luiz from French club Paris-Saint Germain.
The news broke on Friday afternoon that Luiz could be edging nearer to a move to the French champions, before it was confirmed by reliable sources such as the BBC and Sky Sports that talks were ongoing over a bid.
Additionally, rumours this evening say that Luiz passed a medical at PSG in Brazil earlier today and has already agreed personal terms.
The Brazilian defender has been the subject of much transfer talk since the end of the season, with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and PSG all interested.
The sum, £50 million, will come as a shock to many and, if the deal goes through, will make Luiz the most expensive defender of all time ahead of Brazilian and future PSG teammate Tiago Silva.
The sum may fund Chelsea’s transfer movements for the summer nicely, as they surely were not expecting to receive such a high figure for a player who has enjoyed a mixed spell at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea signed David Luiz from Benfica on the 2011 January deadline day for £21.3 million, meaning they will have made a huge profit on the Brazilian if the deal to Paris-Saint Germain goes through.
The deal will also help Chelsea stay within financial fairplay regulations in the next window while still signing the targets they need in order to challenge for the Premier League title again next season.
