Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has revealed that he would welcome Spanish teammate Cesc Fabregas to the club, claiming he is what the club needs.
The former Arsenal midfielder has been told that he can leave the Nou Camp and his preferred destination is a second stint in the Premier League.
Chelsea appear to be leading the race to sign Fabregas, with reports in Spain suggesting he has agreed terms with the Blues and already passed a medical.
Troubled striker Fernando Torres has told Movistar that Fabregas would be a quality acquisition for the club, especially with the departure of the legendary Frank Lampard.
“He [Fabregas] is a kind of player that Chelsea don’t have at the moment. Great players are always great signings.”
“We know him well, he was one of the best players in the Premier League while playing for Arsenal and is a player who brings a lot to the team,” Torres added.
“He is a player who brings ball control and goals. If he feels important, if he feels like a leader he proved at Arsenal that can lead a squad.”
In the final quote, Torres may be referring to the decrease in stature that Fabregas has been experiencing at Barcelona, and with Mourinho reportedly telling the midfielder that he would be an integral part of his plans, it certainly looks like a deal may be close.
Fabregas was captain at Arsenal before his £35 million move to the Catalan club.
As well as pointing towards the arrival of Fabregas, Torres’ insistence that Chelsea should sign the midfielder may even point toward another year in West London for the striker.
There is yet to be confirmation of any deal between player or club as of yet, with the reported figure amazingly under £30 million.
