World Cup winner sparks interest

Chelsea’s World Cup winner Andre Schurrle has sparked interest from top European clubs, according to sources today.

The Guardian reports that La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are keen to take the Winger from West London, where he enjoyed a relatively successful first season at the Blues.

As one of Mourinho’s first signings, Schurrle joined the club for £18m last summer from Bundesliga side Bayern Leverkusen. The German spent much of the season coming on as a substitute, but featured more regularly towards the end of the term, grabbing crucial goals against Manchester City, and of course the opener against PSG in the Champions League.

Schurrle enjoyed a memorable World Cup, scoring a handful of goals in the tournament – including two in the demolition of Brazil. It’s suggested that Schurrle may be open to a move which would see him feature in more first team Football, however his involvement in this season’s Chelsea squad is yet to be determined, after only returning to training yesterday.

The Express report Schurrle was offered in the deal for Miranda, despite the fact that the defender rejected the chance to leave Atletico.

The reports are very speculative at this time, with it being highly unlikely that Chelsea would let go of a player on his way to a fantastic career.
