Back in January, Chelsea beat Liverpool to the signing of Mohamed Salah for around £11million.
Since then he has failed to hold down a regular place in Jose Mourinho’s starting line up. Eden Hazard, Andre Schurrle, Willian and Oscar can all play on the wing, where Salah likes to ply his trade. These international superstars all went to Brazil 2014, and reached at least the quarter finals. Andre Schurrle happened to be a star in the winning country.
There is a clear gulf in class between Salah and the other four, and due to this the Eqyptian was left out of last night’s squad.
This lead me to the foreign player situation at Chelsea. The Barclays Premier League allows 17 foreign players in the 23-man squad, but Chelsea currently have 18. Rumours about Petr Cech leaving have done the rounds this week, but loaning Salah seems like a much more sensible move to me. He is still young, and at 23 he could yet find his way into the side in years to come.
Getting games at a Premier League side may further increase his transfer value should Chelsea look to sell him for a profit, like they did with Romelu Lukaku, Patrick van Aanholt, Kevin de Bruyne and many more.
Personally, I think Salah is not Chelsea standard yet, and he won’t be getting into the first team anytime soon. It seems the best option for the player, his career and Chelsea Football Club – everyone’s happy.
What do you think Chelsea should do with Salah? How do you think we will get around the aforementioned Premier League regulations? Let me know in the comments section.
