After last night’s victory of newly promoted Burnley, Gary Cahill and Andre Schurrle took their turns at speaking to the Chelsea website.
Cahill said: “I enjoyed it because we won the game and we played some great football at times. Obviously it wasn’t ideal that we went 1-0 down but the reaction from the lads was fantastic and we kind of put the game to bed in the first half. It was a sticky scoreline because if they get one back it’s game on, but in the second half they played very direct as we probably would have expected and it was a tough game, which we knew it would be, but we’re thrilled with the three points.”
Cahill is no stranger to Turf Moor having spent a large part of the 2004/05 campaign on loan at the club, and he wasn’t surprised by the manner in which Sean Dyche’s side started the game.
It’s a tough place to come; we knew they would be direct, strong and they can play as well.
“The first game here, with the atmosphere the way it was, was always going to be tough, but we’re off to a good start.”

Schurrle then went on to say: “In the first half we had a lot of chances and we could have scored more, but for me it was good with my goal and I’m happy we won.”
We have a lot of work to do, we can play better. We played well but there’s always room for improvement.
“They [the new signings] all played very well, Diego scored his first goal which was very important for him, We saw with Cesc he always wants the ball, he likes to produce passes, like he did for me with the goal. Didier came on, you could see how much the fans love him and he almost scored.”
