The Times report that Italian club AS Roma are interested in signing troubled Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, with Mattia Destro set to move the other way.
Fernando Torres could finally be offered a way out of Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks, as Roma and Chelsea officials held talks over a swap deal involving Roma striker Mattia Destro.
According to The Times, Chelsea want to sign the £20 million rated Italian, and will put forward a proposal that would also see Fernando Torres move on loan to Italy.
However, Roma are interested in signing the Spaniard permanently, if they can get over the hurdle of his reported £180,ooo per week wage packet.
The paper also report that Roma have accepted that Destro, who could battle Costa and Drogba for a place at Chelsea, will leave the club this summer and are looking to get the best deal possible for one of the most coveted strikers in Europe.
Talks reportedly took place in the last few days, as AS Roma officials flew to London and met with representatives of Chelsea.
Torres, who has 2 years remaining on his contract in London, has had a torrid time at the club since signing from Liverpool and if these reports are to be believed, AS Roma have finally come forward and offered both Chelsea and Torres an escape route.
The deal would see Chelsea acquire an exceptionally talented 23 year old, as well as freeing up some space on the wage bill if Torres were to move permanently.
Torres didn’t get a look-in during Chelsea’s season opener away to Burnley and it looks set to stay that way if the club’s record signing opts to stay at The Bridge.
Chelsea would, however, still need to sell another non-homegrown player in order to comply with Premier League registration rules, which would leave the rumour mill spinning a while longer.
