“Woefully short” – Pundit warns Chelsea’s big transfer could be a total disaster

It’s been an incredible busy week at Chelsea, and many of us have been working our little fingers off keeping you all up to date.

On the London is Blue podcast, their latest edition saw them look back at an incredibly busy window of ins and outs – with focus on one late deal in particular.

Jackson goes to Bayern for big money

“Another sale – Nicolas Jackson, a loan fee of €16.5m, if it ends up going as intended it will be €81.5m total for the entire deal. It will end up being Bayern Munich’s record signing for a player. There is not another club in the world selling their third choice striker for that much money,” said presenter Dan Dormer proudly.

“We were there in Philadelphia for his second red card. I thought that might be the moment he was looked to be moved on, that kinda proved to be right,” fellow presenter Nick Verlaney said.

“I think we are woefully short up top without Nico. I don’t think Marc Guiu is going to fill much of a void, especially in the Champions League. I think a lot is being put on Joao Pedro up top, pretty much alone while Liam Delap is injured.”

Chelsea risk their season for lucrative Jackson sale

We have to say, we do agree with the belief that we’re pretty short up top now. We still don’t know the full extent of the Delap injury but it looks like a nasty hamstring tear and that could be months out. Marc Guiu and Joao Pedro is not sufficient for a season fighting on 4 fronts.

It’s a tempting deal and we can see why they’ve done it – but it it a gamble without question.

  1. Again, the pressure the fan base placed on the player and the club around Jackson HAS NOT helped our cause. The deal doesn’t even guarantee us the fee everyone seems to be quoting, and that’s before you consider how thin we are at the 9 and 10.

I blame the directors for not lining up more cover up top, BUT the supporters who jeered so long and loud that the player never would have considered staying deserve their own share of the blame. Absolute stupidity.
