Trevoh Chalobah must have had a fun summer transfer window – for once, his club weren’t trying their hardest to get rid of him.
He finally seems to have convinced the sporting structure at Chelsea that he’s a good player, and he’s started every game so far this season.
Speaking after the win over Fulham, he explained what it was like being one of the more senior players around the dressing room.
Chalobah on being a leader for Chelsea

“Obviously, being one of the experienced players now – I’m not a young boy anymore – I’m just helping the younger players and the new players that have come in. I’m just stamping my authority and showing a bit more personality and captaincy. It’s not just about me wearing the armband to go out there and lead the boys,” Chalobah said.
It’s very magnanimous of him to put it that way – he should actually be one of the top options for captain, as a home grown player who has a great character and plays regularly.
“The likes of Tosin [Adarabioyo], Reece [James], Robert [Sanchez], Cucu [Marc Cucurella], players like that, we need to help the younger boys and it’s going to be important for every single one to get that leadership and help us going forward.”
Maresca backs his star man who he’s “happy with”
Enzo Maresca had had very flattering things to say about his defender after the game:
“Since he came back in January, he’s doing very well,” the manager said.
“The reason why we achieved what we achieved last season is also because of Trev. In the final against PSG in the Club World Cup, he was top and he is doing very well and we are happy with him.”
Maresca is happy with him, and we’re happy for him. This looks set to be another season where Chalobah is vital to the team.
