Cahill – The Weekend Interview

This week it was Cahill’s turn to be interviewed by the Chelsea website.

Cahill starts by describing his thoughts on our 5-0 thumping over Schalke in midweek.

‘It was fantastic, especially the way we went about getting the result’

‘It was an important game and we had to try to top the group. The most impressive thing for me was the way we started the game, which was similar to when we played West Brom last week. We started brilliantly and didn’t really give Schalke any hope in the game. We went ahead very early and it deflated them.’

He then talks about the importance of having solidarity amongst the starting 11.

‘We know we have a very talented squad here, we have superb players that can come in without it having any effect on the quality of our performances because they’re so good.’

‘It’s been good for us that everybody has stayed fit and healthy, which always gives you a chance, but playing with a regular team and regular pattern of play gives us an opportunity to get that consistency in our game. Thankfully we’ve been able to do that since the start of the season and everybody has played their part.’

Finally Cahill is asked about the busy Christmas period.

‘We’ve got 12 games in 6 weeks, it’s a crazy part of the season but we’ve certainly got the squad to cope. The manager is blessed in the sense he can make changes to the side and still bring in quality players.’

‘Whether it’s Premier League, Champions League or Capital One Cup, everybody has been involved at various points of the season so far and I’m sure that will continue throughout this upcoming busy period.’

‘It’s a really big week and they’re all tough games. It’s so hard in the Premier League to win matches, regardless of who you’re playing against. It could be dangerous for us but with the way we’re playing, as well as the confidence we have, we’ll go into matches feeling positive.’
