Chelsea have had a world-record bid for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale rejected, according to various sources today.
Chelsea reportedly offered £101 million for Bale, who made the move to Spain from Tottenham 15 months ago for a record £85 million.
However, the winger has been linked with a move back to England, with Manchester United also reportedly interested in his services.
Chelsea’s bid to make Bale the first £100 million player, though, was obviously not lucrative enough for the Spanish giants and leaves the door open to Louis van Gaal’s side.
Despite the recent reports though, it does seem unlikely that Bale would move from Spain so soon, particularly after enjoying a successful first year or so in Madrid.
The former Southampton man scored in Madrid’s famous Champions League Final win last season and also netted a stunning goal in the Copa Del Rey final against bitter rivals Barcelona.
Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez has insisted that the 25 year-old is not for sale at any price as he looks to detract interest from one of his many prized-assets at the club.

Financial fare play means we are unlikely to ever see a transfer over 50 million pounds. Transfer fees will start dropping drastically as the punishments get stiffer. PSG paid a fine of 50 million Euros this year.
