Chelsea legend set to retire

Various reports circulating tonight suggest that Chelsea legend Didier Drogba is to retire when his contract is up at the end of the season.

They go on to report that he will become Jose Mourinho’s assistant at Chelsea after he hangs up his boots.

Didier Drogba rejoined Chelsea in the summer after leaving following Chelsea’s 2012 Champions League win, which he was memorably instrumental in.

However, various outlets, including the Express, report that he is ready to give up his role as a backup striker at the Blues and join the team’s coaching staff instead.

The 36-year-old has played an important role since returning to the Blues, scoring a couple of crucial goals, and could yet add to his silverware collection before he calls it a day in the summer.

The Ivorian has won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and of course the Champions League in his previous eight year in West London, so will certainly have no regrets following his retirement.

The news will also spark rumours about who Chelsea will target to replace Drogba, with Wilfried Bony and Andrej Kramaric being linked with the Blues in recent weeks.
