Jose Mourinho has already started comparing Kurt Zouma with Chelsea legend and former captain Marcel Desailly and what makes this story interesting is Desailly believes Zouma is better than him.
‘I did not have this experience at this level of the game at his age so the potential is there, no doubt,’ said Desailly, talking to the official Chelsea website.
I just want the media to allow him to be at peace and to work hard on his agility and technique and he can be far better than me, because I was not like this at his age.
We know Jose demands more from every player and maybe it was a friendly way of telling the young man we might call on you to play in midfield occasionally, so you have to be versatile like Marcel Desailly.
Zouma is the quickest centre back I have watched, I look forward to him facing an attack filled with speed merchants. We have already seen him deployed just to neutralise Raheem Sterling on several occasions this season and like the Cup final he was the winner.
We also saw him deployed against Everton to stop Lukuka and again he was able to recover from impossible positions to thwart Lukuku of a clear opportunity.
Chelsea have done a great job of slowly introducing him into the team and keeping the pressure of him, but I don’t think this formula will change much this season and a clear pattern is emerging that Zouma starts against quicker opposition.
