Real Madrid could be ignoring their Galactico transfer policy this summer as they could make a move to sign Chelsea’s  John Obi Mikel, according to CaughtOffside.
The Spanish club are rumoured to want more backup options in central defensive midfield, behind their world class first-choice midfield pairing Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
Madrid have made some similarly unexpected signings in the past, as they signed former Everton midfielder Thomas Gravesen in 2005, and later signed Lassana Diarra from Portsmouth in 2009.
Mikel has never really been a regular in the Chelsea first-team for season after season so he may be allowed a move away from the capital. However he is a very useful player, as he can perform a strong defensive duty when holding a lead.
Real could be willing to sign the Nigerian in the upcoming transfer window.
Chelsea, meanwhile, could also be making some new signings, with the Blues reportedly linked with a move to sign exciting youngster Giannelli Imbula (currently at Marseille) ahead of next season.
