Falcao ‘Offered to Chelsea’

According to the Daily Mail, Radamel Falcao could remain in the Premier League next season after being offered to Chelsea on loan.

Falcao, who signed a temporary deal with Manchester United in last summer’s transfer window, is not wanted back at Old Trafford, while his parent club Monaco are keen to rid themselves of his £350,000-a-week wages once more.

The Colombian has only managed four goals from 26 league outings for United and appeared to be waving goodbye to the fans during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are likely to be in the market for a new centre-forward this summer. With Didier Drogba still mulling over the club’s offer of a new one-year contract as back-up to Diego Costa.

The Blues also have concerns over Costa’s fitness and temperament, after the Spaniard missed almost a third of their league matches this season.

Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes, who also represents Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and Costa, is hoping to use his Stamford Bridge links to engineer a move for his client.

Despite refusing to listen to their £43.5m purchase option on Falcao, United were rumoured to have enquired over a renewed loan deal for the 29-year-old for next campaign.

It is understood that they no longer see this as a realistic option and Monaco, who are desperate to find another suitor, are willing to cover the difference if another club will pay his £220,000-a-week in wages.

This could prove to be a stumbling block for Chelsea, who don’t have a single first-team player earning a basic salary in excess of £200,000-a-week.

The Blues’ highest earner is currently Eden Hazard, who recently signed a new five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
