Chelsea to improve offer for Stones

This morning it is being reported that Everton have rejected a £20million bid for John Stones from Chelsea. Mourinho is targeting the 21-year-old centre back as a future player to help fill the gap which will be left when John Terry retires. However Everton are reluctant to sell him.

Stones currently has four years left on his contract with Everton and Roberto Martinez hopes he sees out his contract as he recently stated that he expects the 21 year old to have his best year yet in the upcoming season.

The Mail are also reporting that Chelsea will increase their bid to £26 million in the next 2 days. They also say Everton will hold out for a fee of £30m if Stones decides he wants to move to the Premier League champions. However if Stones doesn’t show a desire to leave, they have said he won’t be for sale.

It is believed Chelsea will offer the young England international the no.6 shirt.

Later this season John Terry will turn 35 and Gary Cahill 30, therefore Chelsea are keen to sign him as a future replacement for them with the potential to be captain. This season there are new rules on the amount of home grown players a club needs in the Premier League too therefore Mourinho sees this an important signing for Chelsea.

However Everton are short on centre backs at the moment with Distin and Alcarez both being released and The Mail believes they recently had an £8 million bid rejected by Crystal Palace for Scott Dann before he signed his new contract with the South London side.
