Matic ‘unhappy’ about Cech’s depature

Chelsea’s Serbian midfielder, Nemanja Matic, has openly admitted that he is unhappy about goalkeeper Petr Cech leaving Stamford Bridge, and joining a rival who may be competing for silverware next season.

Matic, who was pivotal in Mourinho’s title winning squad last season, isn’t pleased that a ‘keeper with such experience and talent like Petr Cech has boosted the chances of a rival in the race for the Premier League winners medal.

Speaking to The Guardian, here’s what Matic had to say:

Petr is a great guy and a great keeper, It is going to be a very important signing for them.

“But I am not happy because of that. We know that he is very professional. He is one of the best keepers. And I hope this season he does not perform as he did here for 10-11 years.”

I am happy for him because he gets to stay in London, which for him and his family was very important. I wish him all the best.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Cech won everything there is to win. Last season, the Czech Republic international won his fourth Premier League title since making the move to west London.

For quite some time, it’s been obvious that Arsenal have needed to improve in their goalkeeper area, and Cech will go straight in and solve it.  Matic still believes his ex-team mate still has the edge to play at the top level.

“We are ready for everything. I think last year Man United, City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham also had good teams…very good teams. I think our team was champion and a team that are champions are ready for everything. I think we have enough,” the midfielder said.
