Chelsea closing in on Rahman Baba deal

According to Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea are getting closer to completing the deal for FC Augsburg left-back Abdul Rahman Baba, who will replace the departing Filipe Luis.

Chelsea News had already brought you the news that Baba would be joining the Premier League champions, but the update is that the deal is getting closer and closer. Di Marzio is well known for his transfer knowledge, and it was posted on his website this morning that Chelsea have scheduled a meeting with the Bundesliga side for Monday. Chelsea have agreed a deal with the player, who is eager to sign a five-year-deal at Stamford Bridge. Another club who were interested in the defender was Roma, but they are now focusing on completing deals for Edin Dzeko and Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah.

Augsburg were not going to let their 21-year-old go on the cheap and so Chelsea are looking to bid in the region of around £14m.

Baba would come in to deputise first choice left-back Cesar Azpilicueta, who had an absoloute blinding season last campaign, heavily praised by boss Jose Mourinho in different points in the season.

Chelsea are also interested in John Stones, with the west London club already having a bid rejected for the young English defender. Mourinho has stated that the club won’t be going back to Everton with an improved bid, but we have heard that before. The 21-year-old Everton defender has been told by Chelsea centre back Gary Cahill just how hard it is to reject joining the Premier League champions.
