Chelsea’s Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah is poised to join Serie A side Roma, but this may have to be delayed as the Blues still have a deal to settle with fellow Italian side Fiorentina, the club Salah was loaned to last season.
Reports in Italy are emerging, reporting that an agreement between the player and Roma has been made, so the season-long-loan deal is to be confirmed imminently.
Ramy Abbas, Salah’s agent, has confirmed that his 23-year-old client is all set to undergo his medical in Rome.
Next summer, if the loan deal is successful, Salah’s stay at Roma will be made permanent, where he’ll be linking up with ex-Chelsea and England defender Ashley Cole.
However, a dispute between Salah and Fiorentina means that the deal to Roma cannot be officially announced yet.
The Viola are claiming that they still have a valid contract with the ex-Basel man, who scored nine goals for them last season. Salah had been due to re-join the Italian side for one last season as per a deal made with his full-time employers, Chelsea.
However, Abbas had a separate deal with the Florence based club that entitled his client to head for the exit door in the summer.
This deal expired at the end of June, and Fiorentina are disputing that because Salah didn’t formally ask to leave, he is still their player. Therefore, they also believe he is available for them to select next season.
If the problem cannot be solved, it may head to FIFA who will decide whether or not he is free to join Roma.
La Gazzetta dello Sport are suggesting that Salah may line-up for Roma in a pre-season friendly vs La Liga side Sevilla on August 14.
