Trevoh Chalobah Starts New Chapter After 151 Chelsea Appearances

Trevoh Chalobah has completed a permanent move from Chelsea to Como, with the Serie A club signing the defender on a five-year contract.

Como confirmed the signing after Chelsea reached an agreement to sell Chalobah. According to Fabrizio Romano, the club-to-club deal includes an initial €30 million fee, €6 million in add-ons and a sell-on clause.

Financial terms were not disclosed by Como, while British media reported a €30 million fee plus add-ons. Chalobah had been in talks over a move to Italy for several weeks, and Romano reported that the defender wanted the move and was ready for Champions League football.

Chalobah leaves Chelsea after 151 appearances

Chalobah joined Chelsea at the age of eight and progressed through the club’s academy before reaching the first team. He departs having made 151 first-team appearances for the Blues.

Last season, Chalobah made 47 appearances in all competitions and scored three goals. Chelsea agreed to a permanent sale following Levi Colwill’s return to full fitness and the signing of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace.

The defender also made one appearance for England at this summer’s World Cup. Inter Milan had shown interest in Chalobah, but were unwilling to meet Chelsea’s demands and instead signed John Stones after his Manchester City contract expired.

Chelsea continue squad reduction

Chalobah is the fifth player to leave Chelsea for a transfer fee this summer, following Andrey Santos, Marc Cucurella, Tyrique George and Jimmy-Jay Morgan. The move comes as Chelsea look to reduce their playing squad ahead of Xabi Alonso’s debut campaign in charge.

Further movement could follow in defence. Benoit Badiashile is close to completing a loan move to Napoli, while Crystal Palace have lodged their first bid for Axel Disasi.

Chelsea have spent just shy of €400 million on Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda, Valentin Barco, Emmanuel Emegha, Denner, Danny Welbeck and Dastan Satpaev so far this summer. Jordan Henderson is also set to arrive from Brentford on a free transfer.

Chalobah joins a Como side that secured Champions League qualification for the first time in its history last season. He will now begin the next stage of his career in Italy after his long association with Chelsea came to an end.
