The 21- year old has been a target for Jose Mourinho after it emerged Felipe Luis would depart Stamford Bridge after playing back up to Cezar Azpilicueta last season.
Rahman comes in to fight for a place with Azpilicueta but reports suggest Mourinho could move Azpilicueta on the right paving way for Rahman to start as Chelsea’s first choice left back.
Rahman said goodbye via Augsburg’s official website.
I thank all the coaches and fans for their support last year. This is a chance to play at a top club in England, even if I had actually set myself on a long-term stay in Augsburg a year ago.
Augsburg general manager Stefan Reuter who was with Rahman at the airport was full of praise for the young fullback.
Baba Rahman has made a great leap in his year with us. It’s not just an award for his achievements, but also for our work, if international giants like Chelsea are interested. We wish him well in England.
The former Dreams FC defender did not play a part of his side’s 1-0 Bundesliga defeat to Hertha Berlin last Friday after he was asked to train away from the first team by manager Markus Weinzier.
