Chelsea prepare to hijack Pedro deal

According to Ian Ladyman of the Daily Mail, Chelsea are readying a late bid for Barcelona winger Pedro, who has constantly been linked with a move to Manchester United throughout the summer.

Despite the sudden interest from the Premier League champions, Louis van Gaal is still tipped to be the manager that Pedro will play under, if the Spanish international does leave the Catalans. Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward flew to Spain last week to hold talks with the midfielder.

Once the payment structure of the transfer has been agreed, Woodward is confident that the deal will be completed, taking Pedro to Old Trafford, fending off interest from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

However, it’s understood that Chelsea are now ready to fight for the signature. The Blues are looking to bolster their attacking options after a disappointing start to the season, failing to win in the opening two games, picking up one point.

Earlier in the summer, Chelsea had interest in the winger, but the boss wasn’t so sure. In fact, there was interest from the west London club in January, but opted to sign Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado instead.
