Summer setbacks fail to end Chelsea’s Alex Scott interest

Chelsea are expected to launch another move for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott in January, according to reports, after several bids for him were rejected over the summer.

Nothing here is confirmed. This is reported interest, not an agreed deal, and Bournemouth’s stance on selling in the middle of the season is still unclear.

Chelsea plot new bid for Alex Scott

The claim comes via the Daily Mail, who report that Chelsea will be first in the queue for Scott’s signature when the January window opens. We’ve been here before with this one – Chelsea remain under consideration for a move for the England midfielder despite getting nowhere in the summer.

The Blues saw multiple bids for Scott knocked back by Bournemouth during the summer transfer window, and that rejection clearly hasn’t put them off. If anything, it seems to have hardened Chelsea’s resolve to go again in the new year.

Where things stand between the two clubs

What we don’t have is any confirmation of a fresh bid actually landing at the Vitality Stadium, nor any detail on what Bournemouth’s asking price might be this time around. The summer saga, including Chelsea’s previous rejected offer for Scott, gives some sense of how firmly Bournemouth have dug in so far, but there’s no indication yet that their position has softened.

Scott is described simply as Bournemouth’s England midfielder in the reporting, which tells you plenty about his standing without needing embellishment. It’s worth revisiting why Chelsea identified him as a midfield option in the first place, because that reasoning hasn’t gone away just because the summer deal collapsed.

What we’d caution against is assuming this is anywhere close to done. There’s no reporting here on personal terms, a fee, or a medical – just a named outlet saying Chelsea will be leading the race when January comes around. Bournemouth still have to be willing to sell, and Chelsea still have to get a bid over the line that Bournemouth actually accept.

In other news…

Chelsea have been linked with Alex Scott throughout the year without ever closing the deal, and it feels like January will be the real test of whether that changes.
