Chelsea winger Victor Moses made a promising start to his West Ham career in Sky Sports Monday Night Football, as the Hammers ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against Steve McClaren’s Newcastle.
The Nigerian, who begins his third successive loan spell away from Chelsea, played 87 minutes for Bilic’s side on Monday night, and recorded an assist on what was a positive first performance for the winger at the Boleyn Ground.
Moses was inspirational in leading his side’s counter attacking football, culminating in a shot that came crashing back off of the bar and into Dimitri Payet’s feet for the second goal on the night.
The winger has a phenomenally direct and quick approach to attacking football that secured him the move to West London three Summers ago, that at times lit up the Britannia last season and will undoubtedly do so at West Ham this year.
Moses’ pace and ability to create goal-scoring opportunities is something that the Blues have lacked in excess so far this season. The ineptitude of our attacking players to shoot, to run at defenders and to create chances has left us with only four points from five games.
I can’t help but feel that the 24-year-old would have been a useful squad player for Mourinho this season; an impact substitute, a player that can bring fans to their feet after the frustration of short passes on the edge of the box. He certainly showed his capabilities during Benitez’s season in charge; a key figure in our Europa League triumph, and someone that would give his all to be on the pitch in the blue shirt.
The Nigerian signed a four-year contract extension with Chelsea before switching to West Ham for the season; but with Cuadrado and Salah leaving and unlikely to return, could this have been Moses’ season to show what he can do in a blue shirt?
