Chelsea football club, one of the giants of European football but are they a club where the youth policy is none existent? potentially. The blues have a bad reputation for failing youngster’s and not giving them the light of day to show themselves on the bigger stage, Players like Mceachran, Bruma, Sinclair, Mancienne and most notoriously: Ryan Bertrand have all failed to make their mark at the club; the young left back who is currently working his trade at fellow premier league club Southampton has been showing Chelsea what they are missing out on. Chelsea were in a poor run of form until they got two wins of Norwich and Maccabi Tel-Aviv but despite that poor form, Mourinho would still play the under performing players in hope of them regaining their form. This season our strikers have been woeful, only managing to get 7 goals between them in all competitions whereas former blue: Romelu Lukaku has already scored 9 and that’s just in the premier league, the Belgian has become the fifth player in premier league history to bag 50 league goals before their 23rd birthday; all he wanted was game time at Chelsea but was never given the chance. We are in need of a new striker as Costa is showing at the moment he is only a 1 season wonder and has struggled to regain his form after a number of injuries; at the moment Diego Costa is playing worse than Fernando Torres did whilst he was at Chelsea, this is frustrating as its the same old story; we buy a world class striker and they go to pot within the second season.
There has been recent reports that the club think Jose Mourinho may hinder the chance to secure Ruben Loftus-Cheek on a long term contract which is incredibly worrying. Mourinho was publicly criticized the midfielder and has even lied to him about game time which increasingly frustrates the young talent. I’m disheartened to say this but Mourinho seriously need to take a leaf out of Mauricio Pochettino book as the Spurs gaffer is playing a 19 year old and a 21 year old as their holding midfielders (Dele Alli and Eric Dier) both have received national team call ups this season. Chelsea are known for being a defensively strong counter attacking team, but Mourinho is trying too heard to make his players more like Willian. Fabregas plays week in week out but never receives criticism despite being a defensively poor player and ruins counter attacks on a number of occasions but he is love like one of Mourinho’s son; RLC is a technically and physically better player than Fabregas but as he is a young player he will never get a look in.  A host of big clubs are looking at Ruben which include Manchester City, Bayern Munich and 10 time European champions Real Madrid so this shows how good of a player he is.
Chelsea should start taking notice of how Bundesliga clubs develop their players, there are a lot of German youngster in first team’s including Kimmich, Sane, Weigl, Max Meyer, Sule and finally Goeretzka who have shown off their talent as their managers have put faith in them and that’s what Mourinho has to do in order to get the best out of our youth academy instead of sending them out on loan to rot.  At Chelsea in the current squad we have Loftus-Cheek, Kenedy, Traore and Aina but they have received a combined 242 minutes of PL football with Traore and Aina not making a single appearance in the Premier league. England have fallen massively behind in development compared to the likes of Spain and Germany, this is because all of our talents keep failing, managers are not putting their trust in talents.
The club need to implement a plan where the youngster are going to feel happy and respected when they are either in the squad or out on loan, make them feel like they’re apart of the club, Chelsea need to look at the current crop of youth players and consider building a spine of a team around them, they don’t need to necessarily play all the time but a spine for the future. If we had Thibaut Courtois, Andreas Christensen, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Dominic Solanke as our spine we could be onto a winner but our lack of interest in our younger players this may not happen. I would just like to remind you all that John Terry is our last successful academy graduate and not a single player has made it at Chelsea under Roman Abramovich’s ruling, this needs to change… FAST.
In conclusion we should start trusting our younger players because age is just a number and it shouldn’t determine whether a players should start or not.
