During an interview between John Terry and Jamie Carragher for the Mail, Terry revealed that Chelsea turned down a bid from current Premier League rivals Manchester City in 2009.

The pair then discussed if Terry had been close to moving clubs since. To which the captain revealed that in 2009 Manchester City offered £29 million for the Chelsea captain, and Chelsea turned it down.
He had a meeting with Roman Abramovic. Saying that if the club accepted the offer that meant the that the club did not want him, so he did not have a choice and he would have had to go. But if Chelsea did not accept the offer, it told him everything that he needed to know. Terry then said that Chelsea refused the offer and that was it.
