Chelsea must stir up Youth over bringing in new players

For the first time in Roman Abramovich’s illustrious tenure as owner of Chelsea football club, the Russian will have to look for a new source of talent as Chelsea spectacularly fall short of their high expectations in the Premier league, Champions league and domestic cups.

It is fair to say that whenever the club have go into a small situation, money was thrown about left, right and centre to maintain the ‘big club’ status in Europe; now that isn’t the case as the club could now be classed as a European ‘minnow’. Key players from last seasons Premier league and Capital one cup triumph could be departing the club in the summer as they search to be reunited with Champions league football.

Chelsea need to create a new identity for themselves, promoting and developing players from their youth system, something that hasn’t been successfully done since John Terry; with the centre back being on the wrong side of thirty. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is making a push into the first team but it yet to set the league on fire as Hiddink either plays him behind the striker or only gives him 5 minutes a match; which is evidently not good enough. The talented midfielder has signed a new deal recently which gives him £60k a week and the promise of more game time. The club should do this more often in an attempt to appease the next generation of footballing talent.

Throughout Chelsea’s horrendous season, the clubs fans have looked at the players that are currently out on loan and seen how well they are doing. The likes of Andreas Christensen, Nathan Ake and even Todd Kane are putting performances that are worthy for a push in the first team next season.

Personally, I believe that if a player is developed in the youth system, they become emotionally attached to the club and will to pay back  those that have given them so much. I will forever stand by this.

In a recent interview with the Mirror, Todd Kane has defended Chelsea’s loan policy and remains hopeful that he can still make his name heard at Stamford Bridge one day. Todd grew up watching the blues and would do anything to be part of the squad next season, this is passion that needs to be shown by the clubs current group of players; and like I previously said, players who come through the ranks show desire to play for the club.

I’ve learnt so much from being at Chelsea. From working and training with top quality players, I still speak to people from the club all the time, get advice from players, the Chelsea set-up is fantastic and I’ve definitely got no regrets.

In the last transfer window, Kane was linked with some of Holland’s best teams, which is a compliment to his footballing ability.GettyImages-452266628.0

Another player that has grabbed the attention of a host of clubs is Andreas Christensen, the young Danish international is currently out on loan in the Bundesliga for Borussia Mochengladbach and has put in impressive performance which have grabbed the attention of Barcelona, Bayern Munich & Juventus; but the club cannot allow him to leave, so it is important that the board appease him; promise him game time and important role at the club. Christensen has spoken about his time at Chelsea and also enjoying his time at Borussia park.

I was super happy at Chelsea, so returning would be fine. But I am also settled in well in Germany, so here I also want to be. But to change clubs as playing fewer matches, it is not an option if I can choose.

With the new manager coming in, it’ll be vital for him to build his team around the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek & Andreas Christensen as they could be the core of the side for the next 10 years. Chelsea are lacking a spine in the team with the likes of Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole & Petr Cech no longer at the club. John Terry could be the final vertebrae of the magnificent spine that once played at Stamford bridge.

We’ve seen many talented players come and go at Chelsea as they fail to make a claim for the first team due to either inconsistent performances or the lack of managerial stability. The club need to do something about the current crop of players, so the fans don’t see a huge overhaul of talent that could’ve made an huge impact in the future.
